March Madness 2010....

We are all really moving and shaking right now. I feel it in the air. I think the effects of lasts year's hit are almost worn off and everyone seems to be adjusting to their new roles and positions in this life and times. As anyone who reads the bible knows we are in "the last days, critical times hard to deal with will be here" (2Tim 3: 1-7) I always include verses 6, 7, so that I can get a clearer understanding of why relationships continue to be rocky among women who claim Christianity yet, continue to sleep with men and allow them to take over their brains and abuse them.

REALITY BITE: Okay so I'm on the quest for the final 10 right now. I've kinda evened out and even upped my carbs by just a touch to keep my brain from thinking I was mistreating my body.. I've lost the 10 pounds I had gained over the last 45 days due to eating everywhichadamnthing, but reality hit me: I had grown tired with veganism. I was starting to feel bored and discontent in my food choices. That was the real reason I had started eating all wild again. I realized then too, that with the job and all that, I had stopped cooking. Cooking your won food fresh, is one really important key to weight loss. It just is.

Still got my Wii plugged in and I have to get on that thing at least once a week. I would love to promise at least 2wice with a good long walk in between but so far it's ain't hap'nin. But planning, aiming, trying and shooting for, are the best action words out there for those on a weight loss mission. The minute you STOP doing those things you're loss. Don't give up on yourself even if you gain that pound or three back. It's just a matter of investing 7 days to fixing it. Get right back on track. Don't wallow. It will get you no where out outta your clothes again.

Speaking of clothes. No I haven't bought anythign new. It's not a matter of fear so much as economy. I have all the clothes I could want in this lifetime (not really but I have to tell myself that) I need nothing new. Unfortunately, some of the big stuff still has tags. BUT, no worries, that's what BIGGO diaper pens are for. Never used one, get a friend, a hubby or somebody who has. They work wonders if you are not a seamstress or just want a quick fix. Runway and photo models use them all the time. They will be your best and cheapest woredrobe investment ever.

Being proactive has worked wonders on my life and being fifty has been as wonderful as I have imagined it would be. I feel confident and alive, even more than when I was twenty. I no longer feel stupid and vulnerable. I feel like I say 'get the hell away from me' if I'm tired of someone's presence or not answer my phone if I don't feel like talking. I mean, what's going to happen if I just 'don't feel like it today', I mean really, what? There has been no real drama or life changing events in my life for a long time which is great, however, that means in order to have change (positive change) I have to make it happen.

My love of cooking is back and so are the pictures. Click here for a couple of recipes that will appear in the book: Eating Right For The Vegan Who Writes © Michelle McGriff, 2009.

Interesting little side thought straight health Our body uses carbohydrates as its main source of energy and as such we need a good amount to keep us going through the day, especially if we are involved in any form of exercise. The general recommendation is to have 50-60% of your calories come from carbs. If you are on a 2000 calorie diet, 1,000 - 1,200 calories (multiply 2,000 by 0.50 and multiply 2,000 again by 0.60) should come from carbohydrates. Since carbs contain 4 calories per gram, you should eat between 250 and 300 grams (divide 1,000 by 4 and divide 1,200 by 4) of carbs each day. While this may seem like a large amount, carbs are the body's preferred source of energy. While it can use fat and protein for energy, carbs are much more efficient at delivering the energy you need. There are two main types of carbs: simple and complex. Simple carbs are found in candy, soda, and anything made from white flour. Complex carbs are found in vegetables, whole grain flour, oats and cereals. You should focus on increasing your intake of complex carbs while minimizing the amount of simple carbs you eat. •2000 Calorie Diet ◦50 - 60% Carbohydrates: 1,000 - 1,200 calories from carbs or 250 - 300 grams of carbs

It's a new attitude for sure.

Since starting at 220 August 30, 2009, I have managed to lose nearly 40 pounds by the first of the year. I've moved slowly into Veganism and I've cut my carbs to under 100 a day. And no, I'm not hungry! I'm taking my daily suppliments of Nutriferon (shaklee), B Complex (shaklee), Cali Tea (Sunriders), and muli-vitamin designed for people over 50--which is me! (shaklee), I work out regularly on my Wii Fit (golf-nine holes, bowling, tennis and boxing, along wearing a garment designed to work with my body's heat to reduce body rolls and smooth out loose skin (Ardyss Interational- www.ardysslife.com/mcgriffm). ~ Michelle
